As the days are getting longer, and the warmth returns, it's natural that our thoughts turn to summer. We begin to fantasize more, thinking of holidays, long summer days, barbecues of the back deck, days at the beach under blue skies, warm summer evening walks, working the garden, ice cream, and sitting outside.

  • Freesia and the Hummingbird

Freesia and the Hummingbird

Acrylic on board
26" x 26" framed
$2500

While sitting enjoying my garden one blissful summer's day a lovely little hummingbird zeroed in to the hanging Freesia. It hovered and suckled, flit away and returned. For several long moments I was blessed with the graceful presence of this amazingly robust tiny bird. This colourful and precise painting shares that time. This work was also the cover image for my second musical CD of piano improvisations - 'Summer Haze'.

FRANCES OFLYNN
Summer sun touches us all; we grow and turn our heads towards it as our ancestors have done since the beginning of time. But in fact, I was inspired by many years of watching Sunday Morning on CBS, which features ever-changing portraits of the sun.
